GEST Statement on Well Control Rule

Gulf Economic Survival Team (GEST) Executive Director Lori LeBlanc issued the following statement with regard to the BSEE’s release of the Well Control Rule.

Port Fourchon, LA– “The Gulf Economic Survival Team (GEST) has worked diligently since 2010 to advocate against regulatory burdens that cripple our offshore oil and gas industry, including Louisiana’s local service companies.   The Obama Administration’s release of the 2016 Well Control Rule had a detrimental impact on our offshore industry without any relevant improvements to safety and environmental protections. GEST is pleased to see this Administration consult with leading technical experts to re-write and finalize a new Well Control Rule that we anticipate will eliminate ambiguities and clarify some of the significant flaws in the original WCR.    Our offshore industry and the offshore workers deserve a final rule that improves, rather than undermines, offshore safety.  We look forward to reviewing the final rule in more detail as we continue to fully support offshore energy production in the Gulf of Mexico.”

“GEST is also pleased to announce that with this latest regulatory reform, we will now be the Gulf Energy Strong Team where we can now support the strength of American energy that the Gulf provides our families, local communities, the federal treasury, and of course Americans everywhere who rely on fuel for their homes and businesses.  Our motto remains, Gulf Proud Energy Strong!”
