Louisiana Congressional Delegation Asks DOI Secretary Jewell for More Dialogue with Industry on Well-Control Rule

Members of Louisiana’s Congressional Delegation sent a letter today to U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Sally Jewel requesting additional dialogue with industry to address serious flaws in the proposed new well-control rule.

“We as a delegation are particularly concerned that this proposed rule could result in a de facto drilling moratorium in the Gulf. As you can image, that result would not only carry with it other long-term safety concerns, but would have substantial negative impacts on Louisiana’s coastal restoration efforts, as revenues received through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) could be jeopardized.”

The letter is signed by U.S. Congressmen Charles Boustany, John Fleming, Garret Graves, Steve Scalise, Cedric Richmond, and Ralph Abraham.
